Bookreview: On the Way to the Wedding

Author: Julia Quinn
Genre: historical Romance
Published: 2006
Personal rating: 5/5
Yearly count: 11

The eighth and final installment of the Bridgerton series. The only unmarried Bridgerton at this stage is Gregory Bridgerton. He’s holding out for love, and thinks he’s found it when he sees Miss Hermione Watson. Unfortunately, Hermione is already in love. However, Gregory gets assistance from the most unlikely source, namely Lady Lucinda Abernathy, best friend of Hermione. In the process of helping Gregory, Lucy falls in love with him, but, she’s already engaged. Will Gregory come to his senses, and if so, will he do it on time to stop Lucy from marrying another man?

I think that, despite the slow start after the prologue, this is the best in the whole series. It surprised me at every turn, kept me on the edge of my seat, and amused me to no end. I loved it! A wonderful ending to a great series.

Bookreview: It's In His Kiss

Author: Julia Quinn
Genre: historical Romance
Published: 2005
Personal rating: 5/5
Yearly count: 10

The seventh book in the Bridgerton series. This one revolves around Hyacinth Bridgerton and Gareth St. Clair, and a mystery contained in a diary written in Italian!

There’s lots of humor in this book, and the mystery element is done in a fun way. I very much enjoyed this book with it’s lighthearted tone.

Bookreview: Mistletoe Man

Author: Susan Wittig Albert
Genre: mystery
Published: 2000
Personal rating: 5/5
Yearly count: 9

A Christmas China Bayles mystery. China’s supplier of Mistloe is found dead, and China gets caught up in the case. Meanwhile, on the personal front, her best friend is keeping a secret. Fun galore with Christmas just around the corner in Pecan Springs!

This is a good, engaging mystery with a real Christmas atmosphere. I think it would be double as good when read during Christmas time, but don’t let that stop you from reading it sooner (or later)! Highly recommended, just like the rest of the series!

Bookreview: Book of Shadows

Author: Cate Tiernan
Genre: young adult
Published: 2001
Personal rating: 3.5/5
Yearly count: 8

The first in the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan. Morgan, the teenaged narrator of this book, falls in love with the new boy at school, Cal. Cal is into Wicca, and Morgan finds that she is too. But her budding interests in Wicca get her into trouble with her parents, and her love for Cal leads to an estrangement with her best friend, Bree. Will anything ever make sense again?

This young adult book is fast paced and very enjoyable to read. It’s the first in a series, and the ending is pretty open. I liked it, and I’m curious as to what the next one brings.

Bookreview: When He Was Wicked

Author: Julia Quinn
Genre: historical romance
Published: 2004
Personal rating: 4.5/5
Yearly count: 7

Michael Stirling has loved Francesca Bridgerton from the moment he met her. Unfortunately, that was at her engagement party to his cousin. He kept his love hidden, but now Francesca is a widow, and Michael can’t stop loving her. But will she ever be able to see him as anything but a good friend?

This is the sixth book in the Bridgerton series, and quite a bit darker than the other ones. Later on in the book, the tone lightens somewhat, but it is still the heaviest book of the series. It goes beyond most historical romances, but I like mine a bit lighter. Still, it’s a very good read.
